A Singaporean man could not believe it when a recruiter asked him to pay for the coffee he had during the interview after he declined her company's job offer

The job applicant took to Facebook to share his experience and screenshots of the WhatsApp conversation.

"Never once [encountered] this type of people or company before," he wrote.

"Bring to coffee shop for interview, and when declined, ask money for coffee back. Really a first," he added.

The screenshots show the recruiter asking for reimbursement of SGD6.50 (RM22) for the cup of coffee the applicant drank during the interview

In response, the applicant expressed his disappointment towards the recruiter, but paid for the coffee anyway.

He told her that he found the request unprofessional.

"I've been to quite a number of interviews but nobody has asked me to pay them back for a cup of coffee. Had I known, I would have paid on the day itself. Now it just seems unprofessional," he wrote in reply.

"Please do tell your next potential hires that they're required to compensate for the coffee if they decide not to proceed any further. Leaves a bad taste done like this. Guess I dodged a bullet here, thanks for your time," he added sarcastically.

In an update on the same post, the applicant said a manager from the company later reached out to him to apologise

"The manager called to apologise and was truly sorry for the actions of his subordinate," he said in the update, adding that the manager also refunded the money to him and promised that action will be taken on the employee.

The applicant also acknowledged that the individual could have just been making an honest mistake, and it is not the fault or practice of the company.

The Facebook post has since gone viral, with netizens commending the applicant for gracefully handling the interviewer's stingy request
