A robber fled with a security guard's shotgun after failing to steal RM82,000 from an armoured cash van in Klang, Selangor, on Monday, 21 July

According to the New Straits Times, the incident occurred outside a bank in Bandar Bukit Tinggi at around 5pm.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the security guards on duty were approached by a lone suspect dressed in dark clothing and a helmet, who threatened them with what was believed to be a revolver.

"One of the security personnel reacted swiftly by placing the bag containing the cash into the van and locking the vehicle, preventing the suspect from getting away with any money," he said.

Shazeli said the suspect then snatched a pump-action shotgun belonging to one of the security guards before fleeing on a motorcycle.

Police are currently tracking down the suspect by reviewing CCTV footage from the bank, nearby business premises, and dashboard camera recordings from vehicles in the surrounding area

Roadblocks were set up immediately after the incident in an attempt to intercept the suspect.

"These roadblocks will continue at strategic locations until the suspect is taken into custody," Shazeli said.

He added that police are investigating the case from various angles, including the possibility that the suspect had prior knowledge of the cash transport schedule.

Authorities believe the suspect acted alone but have not ruled out the possibility that others may have been involved.

The case is being investigated under Sections 392 and 397 of the Penal Code for robbery and for attempting to cause death or grievous hurt during an armed robbery, respectively.

Meanwhile, a one-minute video recorded by someone inside the bank has surfaced online, showing the suspect packing a bag before pointing what appeared to be a firearm at a security guard.

The suspect was then seen calmly walking away from the scene before fleeing.
