A 36-year-old Sabahan man has been arrested for abusing his wife with a barbell on 17 April
News Straits Times reported that the unemployed man was arrested at around 10.45pm on Wednesday in Kampung Tabanak, Lahad Datu.
He was detained by the police after his 26-year-old wife lodged a police report against him.
The man reportedly assaulted his wife and son in two incidents
"The first occurred on Sunday (14 April) when the man lost his temper and hit his child," district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nasri Mansor was quoted as saying by New Straits Times.
Sin Chew Daily reported the 26-year-old woman as saying that on the same night, she was hit in the head with the barbell, slapped, and a dumbbell was thrown at her.
The woman and her stepson ran out of the family home to lodge a police report on 17 April after the man began cursing at about 7pm.
He was then arrested at his home, along with the weapon used to injure the victims.
The victim, who tied the knot with the suspect in February this year, was his seventh wife
The Star reported that it was the woman's second marriage and the man's seventh.
He had also abused her before but it was not reported to the police.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
