Police have identified the suspect behind the shooting of a male janitor at Setia City Mall as a Malaysian man in his 30s with a history of criminal and drug-related offences

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan told the media that the suspect, who fired four shots at the janitor inside the mall, has 11 prior criminal records and is now the target of an intense manhunt.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect shot the cleaner in the legs and buttocks after being told to move his items, but the motive remains undetermined.

The fair-skinned suspect was said to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident.

After the attack, the suspect fled to the mall's P2 level, where he fired additional shots and carjacked a Perodua Ativa

The additional shots he fired at P2 shattered a stairwell window and sliding doors.

"The suspect forced the driver to get him out of the mall and instructed him to drop him off near the Pandamaran exit of the Kesas Expressway," Hussein said, adding that he then escaped from there.

More than 10 bullet casings have been recovered from the scene

The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms Act (Increased Penalty) 1971, which carries the death penalty, and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.

Meanwhile, the victim, a foreign national in his 30s, is receiving treatment at Shah Alam Hospital.

The police has since declared the area safe

According to Bernama, Shah Alam district police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said the police had reviewed all CCTV footage at the premises and conducted a "flushing" operation in the surrounding area.

"After a thorough inspection, we confirm that this area is safe, and the premises will be allowed to operate as usual," he was quoted as saying.
