With the Year of the Snake in full swing, snake motifs have slithered into festive decorations and celebrations.
But who would've thought an actual snake would wind up in a packet of ice lolly?
A Thai man from Ratchaburi province got the shock of his life when he discovered a small, whole snake encased in the black bean ice cream he had bought from a roaming vendor.
The man shared photos of the tiny snake peeking out from the top of his sweet treat on Facebook on 4 March.
"The doe-eyed snake, are you dead yet?" the man jokingly captioned the post, adding that even the ice lolly seller was baffled by the unexpected ingredient.
The post went viral, garnering over 8,500 likes and 9,200 shares on Facebook
Netizens quickly identified the reptile as a potentially venomous species due to its green and black scales, speculating that it might be a golden tree snake, commonly found in Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia.
Despite the shocking discovery, most netizens found humour in the situation. One commenter joked, "Don't eat it yet! Wait for it to melt so it can be revived," while another quipped, "New formula with added protein."
However, some expressed concern about the hygiene standards that allowed a snake to end up in the ice lolly. "It looks funny, but when you think about the hygiene aspect, it's quite bad," one netizen wrote. "How could a snake get in there? It looks like a baby snake, there must be a parent, a nest, and more snakes somewhere."
The Nation Thailand reported that authorities have yet to comment on the matter.
