Son Ties Metal Drums To Bedridden Dad's Cot To Keep Him Afloat During Flood
The Kampung Chapu resident said his home gets flooded every year.
A man in Terengganu has resorted to tying three metal drums to his bedridden father's bed to keep it afloat amid flooding in the state caused by torrential rain this week
According to Bernama, 37-year-old Zulkifli Che Noh said the idea to use the drums was suggested by his neighbours before their homes became flooded.
Zulkifli said he had to make such preparations because his father, Che Noh Che Hassan, 79, has been unable to get out of bed since the beginning of this year.
"My father has had neurological disease for 20 years... Previously, he could still sit on a chair for a few minutes. But this year, he can no longer sit up and can only lie in bed," he shared.
With the floating drums, he said they do not need to move his father.
"When the house was flooded before, my father would sit on a chair with a handle and [the other villagers and I] would carry it to the upper level of the house," he explained.
The son's efforts paid off when the bed floated above floodwaters that rose to thigh level on Wednesday afternoon, 27 November
Zulkifli, however, still expressed worry at the situation, hoping to successfully relocate his father to a relief centre.
In the meantime, his siblings and his mum are taking turns to look after him at home.
The Kampung Chapu resident added that their home gets flooded every monsoon season as it is near a river, and that he has experienced this since he was a child.
As of today, 29 November, more than 80,000 people have been affected by floods across seven states, namely Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, and Selangor
According to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), three people have died and 80,589 people have been evacuated to 467 temporary shelters, with Kelantan and Terengganu being the worst hit.
