Upon hearing the news via online call, Balasubramanian was visibly emotional and teared up.
A lucky man from Singapore has won USD1 million (approximately RM4.4 million) in a lucky draw held by a local jewellery store, Mustafa Jewellery
According to Mothership, the winner, Balasubramanian Chithambaram, is a project engineer in civil construction, who has been working in Singapore for 21 years.
His win was announced at a function held at the Civil Service Club @ Tessensohn on Sunday night, 24 November.
Upon hearing the news via online call at the event, Balasubramanian was visibly emotional and teared up.
For the past 14 months, the store in Little India held a monthly giveaway, awarding a lucky customer USD5,000 (RM22,000) every month
However, as one last token of appreciation to its customers, the store announced that it would be giving away USD1 million as its final 'Grand Lucky Draw' prize to one lucky winner.
According to the store's Facebook page, it stated that all customers who spent at least SGD250 (RM830) qualified for the grand draw.
It was revealed that Balasubramanian had bought about SGD6,000 (RM20,000) worth of gold chains for his wife around three months earlier
He shared that he had indeed hoped to win the USD1 million, and so he had entered his name in Mustafa Jewellery's lucky draw.
When asked what he would do with the money, Balasubramanian said he would first inform his mother of his win.
Meanwhile, he also plans to spend some of the money on giving back to the community as a token of appreciation for the years he has worked in Singapore.
