The winner joked that he almost fainted after receiving a call about his win.
A former cleaner, Mohd Nazri Abd Wazir, 61, is planning to perform Umrah and Hajj after winning RM1 milion
According to Bernama, Mohd Nazri was initially sceptical when he received a call on Monday, 5 February, informing him that he had won the grand prize for the 96th Bank Simpanan Nasional Premium Savings Certificate (BSN SSP) Lucky Draw.
"I received a call from BSN telling me I had won RM1 million in a lucky draw. Luckily, I didn’t faint,” he joked.
The 61-year-old then visited a BSN branch in Parit, Perak, to confirm his win, and they verified that it was indeed true.
"At first, I was just trying my luck because the lucky draw I won was for a certificate I bought last year," he said after receiving a mock cheque at an event attended by BSN Perak Director Mazlan Mat Jalil on Saturday, 24 February.
Mohd Nazri had been saving with BSN for over two decades, starting in 2003
He also expressed his intention to use the money for daily expenses and to fulfil his dream of performing Hajj and Umrah with his 84-year-old mother.
Meanwhile, another winner, Mohd Nasir Abdullah, 57, from Kampung Gajah, Perak, expressed his surprise at winning the BSN 50th Anniversary draw prize worth RM50,000.
Mohd Nasir shared that he had been saving with BSN since he was single and decided to participate in the draw in June last year.
He added that the prize money would be used to support his three children who are still studying.
