Moviegoers expecting to see Tom Holland return as the web-slinging superhero in Spider-Man: Brand New Day received an unexpected shock when a cinema projection error displayed an explicit R-rated film instead
The incident took place during an opening-weekend screening after theatre staff accidentally played Gregg Araki's erotic comedy-thriller, I Want Your Sex, on the big screen.
Footage shared on Instagram captured the reaction inside the auditorium as explicit scenes unexpectedly began playing.
Shocked patrons quickly voiced their outrage as they realised something had gone wrong. Several moviegoers began shouting at the projection booth, demanding that staff stop the film and play Spider-Man, while others called for the venue manager.

However, it remains unclear how long the adult film played or if affected patrons received ticket refunds. Clips of the incident quickly went viral across social media platforms due to the stark contrast between the two films.
The timing of the mix-up likely stems from distribution schedules, as both Spider-Man: Brand New Day and I Want Your Sex opened in US theatres on 31 July.
While the Marvel blockbuster caters to broad family audiences, Araki's R-rated release stars Olivia Wilde as Erika Tracy, a provocative artist who hires a young assistant, played by Cooper Hoffman, to become her sexual muse.
The film also features an ensemble cast including pop star Charli XCX, Mason Gooding, Chase Sui Wonders, Johnny Knoxville, Margaret Cho, and Daveed Diggs.
