Malaysia has recorded its best-ever performance at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), with all four members of the national team winning medals at the 2026 competition in Tashkent, Uzbekistan
The Malaysian team won two gold and two silver medals at the 38th IOI, held from 9 to 16 August, with all four students finishing within the top 45 of 375 contestants from around the world.
The results put Malaysia among the leading delegations at this year's competition, alongside countries such as China and the US.
According to the official IOI results, Malaysia's two gold medals were won by students who finished ninth and 19th overall.

Yuichiro Furuse produced Malaysia's highest finish, winning gold and placing ninth overall with a score of 425.22 points.
Yan Xun Khor also won gold, finishing 19th with 380.01 points.
Isaac Kai Sheng Hew took silver after finishing 33rd with 358.76 points, while Janson Ho also won silver, placing 45th with 349.22 points.
This means every member of Malaysia's four-person delegation finished inside the top 12% of the 375-strong field.
The result is also a significant improvement from IOI 2025 in Sucre, Bolivia, where Malaysia won one gold and three bronze medals.
Malaysia's 2026 haul of two golds and two silvers marks the country's best performance at the prestigious international programming competition.

The IOI is one of the world's major international science competitions for secondary school students, alongside the International Mathematical Olympiad, International Physics Olympiad, and International Chemistry Olympiad.
The annual competition, which has been held since 1989, tests students on algorithmic problem-solving, programming, and computational thinking.
Each country typically sends four students to compete individually against some of the strongest young programmers worldwide.
This is Malaysia's strongest IOI result yet
Malaysia's latest performance continues an upward trend in its results at the Olympiad.
The country won one gold and three bronze medals at IOI 2025.
This year, all four Malaysian contestants improved on that performance, with two moving into the gold-medal ranks and the other two securing silver.
The national delegation was formed by the Malaysian Informatics and Programming Society (MIPS), which oversees the identification, training, and selection of students through competitions such as the Malaysian Computing Olympiad and Malaysian Computing Challenge.
The organisation also represents Malaysia at international competitions, including the IOI and Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad.
