The Federal Court has upheld Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's acquittal on four charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT), dishonest misappropriation of property, and money laundering today, 13 July

According to Harian Metro, a three-member bench delivered a 2-1 majority decision to dismiss the prosecution's final appeal to reinstate his conviction and sentence.

The panel was chaired by Court of Appeal president Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Jais, alongside Federal Court judges Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali and Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah. Che Mohd Ruzima and Sequerah formed the majority, while Abu Bakar delivered a dissenting judgment.

With the ruling, Syed Saddiq's acquittal by the Court of Appeal remains in force, bringing an end to the six-year legal battle.

According to the report, the Muar MP appeared calm as the decision was read.

The charges stemmed from allegations that Syed Saddiq abetted then-Bersatu Youth (ARMADA) assistant treasurer Rafiq Hakim Razali in committing criminal breach of trust involving RM1 million belonging to the organisation in March 2020

He also faced a charge of dishonestly misappropriating RM120,000 belonging to ARMADA Bumi Bersatu Enterprise, as well as two counts of money laundering involving transfers of RM50,000 into his bank account.

In November 2023, the High Court convicted the former Bersatu Youth chief and sentenced him to seven years' imprisonment, two strokes of the rotan, and a RM10 million fine.

However, in June last year, the Court of Appeal overturned the conviction and acquitted him, ruling that the High Court had erred in its evaluation of the evidence and the legal elements required to prove the charges

The prosecution subsequently appealed the decision to the Federal Court, which heard final submissions in December 2025 before delivering its decision today, bringing the case to a close.
