Taiping Was Just Ranked The Third Most Sustainable City In The World
The "Best of Cities" category of the awards recognises cities that show leadership in urban sustainability.
Taiping is among the top three most sustainable cities in the world, according to the 2019 Sustainable Top 100 Destination Awards
Taiping Municipal Council president Datuk Abd Rahim Md Ariff received the award, which was presented at the International Tourismus-Börse (ITB) travel trade show in Berlin, Germany on 6 March, The Star reported.
"This is the first time we received a prestigious international award. This achievement is due to the hard work of the community and all relevant governmental agencies," he said.
The Perak town placed third behind Ljubljana, Slovenia, and Vancouver, Canada in the "Best of Cities" category
The "Best of Cities" category of the awards recognises cities that show leadership in urban sustainability and in avoiding disruptive over-tourism.
Taiping was also listed as one of the 100 Sustainable Cities by Green Destinations last December
Green Destinations (GD) is a non-profit organisation which focuses on efforts to create sustainable tourism, leading a global cooperation comprising experts, firms and academy institutions in 80 countries, New Straits Times reported.
The list recognises the efforts made by authorities in the tourism industry that contribute to a sustainable environment.
