A 19-year-old student in Shanghai, China, drafted a will to leave his 20 million yuan (RM12.6 million) estate to his friend

According to South China Morning Post, Li explained that his parents divorced and remarried, leaving him with apartments, savings, and very little attention.

This emotional distance left him feeling entirely alienated, viewing his family members as strangers.

Knowing his life could be in danger, he refused to let his wealth fall into the hands of his parents' new partners.

Under China's traditional inheritance law, parents are first-line heirs, meaning their new spouses could eventually enjoy the assets.

However, updated legal regulations now allow citizens to leave their personal property to non-statutory individuals.

Li formalised his unique wishes at the Shanghai office of the China Will Registration Centre (CWRC)

The institution helps citizens safeguard their assets, ensuring their final requests are legally binding.

The centre manager, Huang Haibo, said that the friend has to legally accept the inheritance within 60 days.

If the friend fails to act, the massive fortune would be deemed rejected, leaving the cash and apartments forfeited, respectively.
