The Police Corporal Who Raped A Girl Inside Sarikei Police Toilet Has Now Been Arrested
However, investigations are still ongoing.
The 53-year-old police corporal at the Sarikei Police Station who is accused of raping a 19-year-old girl inside the station's toilet has now been arrested, according to Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin
"With regards to the Sarikei police report by the victim on 29 October, I wish to inform the House that the police have arrested the suspect, a police personnel," he said.
He confirmed this yesterday, 19 November, while replying to a question from Lanang MP Alice Lau in parliament, adding that investigations were still ongoing.
Once the investigations will be completed, the investigation papers will be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor, he added
Home Minister Muhyiddin was addressing the issue raised by the Lanang MP last week, who had urged Bukit Aman to take over investigations as the victim had been harassed by Sarikei police personnel and a local community leader to settle the case.
He also said that he will look into the matter of non-functioning CCTV at the Sarikei police station during the time of the incident
It was the Lanang MP who had questioned why the CCTV at the Sarikei police station was not functioning when the 19-year-old was raped on 29 October.
According to a report in The Star Online, Muhyiddin has assured that all relevant evidence would be adduced when the case is brought to court.
