TikTok User Offers To Buy Groceries For Melaka Housewife But Steals Her Jewellery Instead

A housewife in Melaka recently fell victim to a robber whom she befriended on TikTok
Melaka Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Mohd Sukri Kaman told Bernama that on Saturday, 10 July, at around 11am, the suspect went to the 54-year-old victim's house at Taman Desa Air Merbau.
He entered the home and then fled with the victim's jewellery worth RM7,000.
The suspect had befriended the victim on TikTok two weeks before the incident.
He offered to take the housewife along to purchase groceries at a nearby supermarket but when he showed up at her house, he robbed her instead.
Mohd Sukri said, "The suspect tricked the victim by entering her home and stealing her jewellery before running away. The victim then filed a police report at 10.20pm on the same day."
He then added that since 1 January, his team has received two reports where victims are tricked into believing that they are about to receive aid before falling victim to theft.

Members of the public are also reminded to never give out any personal information, such as your name and address, to suspicious individuals or new acquaintances on social media.
Mohd Sukri said that there is a group of individuals who exploit the COVID-19 situation by reaching out to victims and pretending to offer aid. After which, they will carry out crimes such as theft or robbery.
"The Melaka police is taking these cases of impersonation and crime seriously and will not hesitate to take stern action," he added.
