The government has announced that Malaysians eligible for the BUDI Diesel subsidy can now transfer their eligibility to an immediate family member

This is intended for cases where a diesel vehicle is registered under a person's name, but is regularly driven by another family member.

Under the BUDI Diesel programme, eligible Malaysians with a diesel vehicle can purchase subsidised diesel at RM2.10 per litre starting 1 July, with a monthly quota of 200 litres. This quota is shared with the BUDI95 programme for subsidised RON95 petrol.

Owners of eligible pickup trucks and four-wheel-drive vehicles can also apply for an additional 100 litres, bringing their total monthly quota to 300 litres.

According to the Ministry of Finance, eligible recipients can now apply to transfer their BUDI Diesel entitlement to an immediate family member who uses the vehicle

However, the transfer is only allowed between immediate family members — namely a spouse, parent, child, or sibling — who are already registered under the BUDI95 programme.

For example, if a father owns a diesel vehicle but his son is the one who drives it most of the time, the father can transfer his BUDI Diesel entitlement to his son. Once approved, the son can decide how to use his shared 200-litre monthly quota between subsidised diesel and RON95, if he also owns a petrol-powered vehicle.

The ministry also stressed that the transfer can only be made once.

After it has been approved, the entitlement cannot be transferred back to the original owner or to another family member.

How to apply

Those who wish to transfer their eligibility should submit their application by 12 July. Applications approved within this cycle will receive their decision by 15 July.

For applications submitted after that, requests made before the 27th of each month will only be processed and take effect on the first of the following month.

To apply, log in to the BUDI MADANI portal, select "Application for Transfer of BUDI Diesel Eligibility", fill out the required details, and submit your application.
