A Boy Was Punched, Kicked And Slapped While Others Watched And Laughed
The incident took place in a religious school in Putatan, Sabah.
A video of a boy beating up another student in a classroom in Malaysia went viral recently
The 2:29-minute video clip started with a male pupil lying on the floor with chairs around him. As the boy got back on his feet, the bully who was looking at him the whole time, threw a few punches at him until he was back on the floor.
The bully was seen punching, kicking, and slapping the victim several times, even going so far as to throwing a plastic chair at the victim. At one point, the bully also appeared to be choking the victim. The victim did not attempt to fight back.
The whole situation took place while other students watched, where some were heard cheering in the video. Apparently, no one came forward to help.
Many netizens said that the video is yet another example that bullying cases have been rampant in the country lately, questioning the whereabouts of teachers in situations like these
It is believed that the victim had triggered the bully after he harrassed and teased his schoolmate about his late father
According to Penampang district police chief Deputy Supt Rosley Hobden, the victim did not sustain any serious injury and said that there were no other motives in the attack.
He also revealed that the two pupils involved are two 12-year-olds, who are currently sitting for their Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR).
While the video only started to go viral on Monday, 5 September, the incident reportedly took place almost a week earlier.
Supt Rosley said that the parents of the victim lodged a police report on Tuesday, 6 September, over the alleged bullying, which occurred at a religious school in Putatan, Sabah, on 30 August.
The duo had been called by the police to give their statements.
Meanwhile, it was reported that the Ministry of Education is also investigating the case
"We may need to reevaluate the delivery and messaging if the violent cases continue to happen," Deputy Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan told The Star yesterday, 6 September, adding that the ministry has a very clear and concise SOP in regards to bullying.
"Bullying of any kind is abhorred and the ministry will continue to keep the safety and well-being of students as a priority."
