Police are investigating after a woman discovered a camera believed to have been secretly placed under the sink in a women's toilet at a food court in Bau, Sarawak

According to a statement issued today, 30 October, Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the woman was using the toilet at around 11am yesterday, 29 October, when she heard repeated beeping sounds.

She then checked her surroundings and found a small black object resembling a dashcam under the sink.

The woman alerted the food court's management before lodging a police report

Mohd Haide said the black-coloured dashcam and a 64GB memory card were handed over to police to assist with investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which concerns acts intended to insult a person's modesty, including certain intrusions upon their privacy.

While police did not name the food court, Premier Food Republic has since issued a statement confirming that a hidden camera was found in the women's toilet at its Tasik Biru outlet

"A police report has been lodged, and an investigation is underway. Your privacy and safety matter to us. We are deeply sorry for the distress caused and thank the customers who raised the alarm," said the food court in a statement today.

Premier Food Republic also said its CCTV footage showed a man entering the women's toilet about two hours before the camera was discovered.

Police said no arrests have been made so far, and investigations are ongoing to identify the person responsible and establish the motive behind placing the device there.
