Woman In Johor Fined For Using Registration Plate That Resembles Her Name
The driver, in her 30s, claimed that the registration number plate was a gift from her husband.
A woman driving a Honda City was fined by the Kedah Road Transport Department (JPJ) for using a registration plate that did not meet legal specifications. The plate resembled her name.
JPJ officers stopped the car during a routine patrol at KM49.5 of the North-South Expressway heading north on 20 January.
The driver, in her 30s, claimed that the registration number plate was a gift from her husband.
"This is an offence under Regulation 6(7) of the Motor Vehicles (Registration & Licensing) Regulations 1959, so a notice was issued for further action," Kedah JPJ director Stien Van Lutam said.
The Kedah JPJ director emphasised that action will be taken against any individual who is found violating traffic regulations, regardless of the reasons or intentions behind the offence
According to Regulation 6(7) of the Motor Vehicles (Registration & Licensing) Regulations 1959, "If any person uses a motor vehicle on which the registration number or, in the case of a hire car or taxi, the identification plate is not displayed in accordance with this regulation, or if the ID is displayed in any unclear manner, or is allowed or permitted to become or remain not easily visible or is not shown as stipulated in this regulation, then they are found guilty of an offence."
The offender can be fined no more than RM300.
