A Twitter user named Winnie posted a series of tweets on 19 October after she found that her car had been clamped by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) while the Mercedes-Benz in front got away scot-free.

"My car got clamped for illegal parking. Fine. But this VIP car who's there before me, also illegally parked, unharmed? @PDRMMsia #dbkl" she vented out in frustration.

The post went viral and received over 20,000 retweets and 7,000 likes.

While she was having her car unclamped, she noticed several DBKL officers doing rounds and claimed the car in front was still left untouched

She confronted an officer on why the luxury car, which she described as a "PDRM VIP",  was not clamped.

"I am only tasked with unclamping vehicles. This is not discrimination as it is standard practice that if the driver of the vehicle is nearby, officers will normally not clamp the car," the officer replied.

The driver of the luxury car, who was having a drink nearby, took notice of the ensuing commotion and promptly left.

The viral post caught the attention of former IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan who pointed out that the logo found on the luxury car was not an official VIP or police logo

The former police chief added that having the badge does not mean one can escape summons for traffic offences.

Winnie's tweet became a subject of debate as well. Some netizens said it's common to see vehicles with certain badges to get away with traffic offences in Malaysia.

Others pointed out that unlike Winnie, the driver was around the vicinity to attend to the vehicle

According to Harian Metro, DBKL will be following up on the incident

"We will have to follow up on this to see if the car was clamped by the council's traffic division or by those on duty hired by the parking concession operator under Yayasan Wilayah," said DBKL deputy enforcement director, Nasarudin Daharun.
