A Year One student has died after being hit by a school bus in Kluang, Johor

According to the New Straits Times, the incident occurred on Jalan Bunga Raya 3 in Taman Sri Lalang at about 4.20pm yesterday, 15 July.

Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said preliminary investigations found that the 36-year-old school bus driver had dropped the student off along Jalan Bunga Raya before turning into Jalan Bunga Raya 3, where she struck the boy, who was on the left side of the road.

"The impact caused the victim to fall and suffer severe head injuries before he was pronounced dead," he said in a statement.

The driver was reportedly traumatised by the incident and later fainted

She was taken to hospital for medical assessment, and a urine test came back negative for drugs.

Bahrin said the driver will be arrested and remanded to assist with the investigation.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
