myTNB is Tenaga Nasional Berhad's official app for managing TNB electricity accounts, bills, payments and usage information.
Customers with an activated TNB Smart Meter can view detailed consumption data, including readings recorded in half-hourly intervals.
Quick answer: What can you check in myTNB?
| What you want to check | What myTNB provides |
| Billing-period / historical usage | Available for TNB accounts |
| Daily detailed usage | Smart Meter required |
| half-hourly usage | Smart Meter required |
| Estimated bill during billing period | Smart Meter feature, where available |
| Energy Budget | Smart Meter feature |
| Live appliance-level usage | Not available |
How do I check my TNB electricity usage on the myTNB app?
Sign in to myTNB, select the relevant electricity account and open its usage information. You can then review daily, monthly and historical electricity consumption.
The general process is:
- Open the myTNB app and sign in
- Select the electricity account or property you want to check
- Open the account's usage or consumption information
- Choose the daily or monthly view
- Select a particular day or period for more detailed information
- Review the historical usage and estimated bill amount
If you manage several properties, make sure you select the correct account. TNB says myTNB supports multiple electricity accounts under the same profile.
Can I check daily TNB usage without a Smart Meter?
No. Automated daily and half-hourly electricity-usage monitoring through myTNB requires an activated TNB Smart Meter account.
Without a Smart Meter, you can still use myTNB to:
- view your electricity bills
- manage your TNB account
- make payments
- access other available account services
However, you will not receive the same automated interval-consumption information available to Smart Meter customers.
What does a TNB Smart Meter measure?
A TNB Smart Meter records the amount of electricity used in half-hourly intervals and sends the information to TNB remotely.
This lets myTNB show when electricity was consumed across the day. It does not identify which individual appliance used the electricity.
For example, a rise during the evening may coincide with air-conditioner, water-heater or cooking-appliance use. The Smart Meter records the combined electricity consumption for the premises, not a separate reading for each device.
TNB states that detailed consumption information down to half-hourly intervals can be viewed through its myTNB digital services.
Is TNB electricity usage in myTNB shown in real time?
No. The usage shown in myTNB should not be treated as a live, second-by-second electricity reading.
According to TNB, a Smart Meter:
- records consumption in half-hourly intervals
- sends the information to TNB's back-end system daily
- allows customers to view half-hourly daily usage through the myTNB app and Portal the following day
This means a half-hourly measurement is not the same as immediate display. The information is useful for identifying consumption patterns, but it will not show exactly how much electricity an appliance is drawing at that moment.
How long after Smart Meter installation will myTNB show usage?
TNB says it can take three to 10 days after Smart Meter installation before you can track electricity usage through the myTNB app or Portal.
A newly installed meter may therefore be physically present at the property before detailed usage information becomes available in myTNB.
If more than 10 days have passed and the account still does not show Smart Meter usage, check that the correct account has been added and selected. Contact TNB if the information remains unavailable.
Why is my TNB electricity usage not showing?
TNB electricity usage may not appear because the account has no activated Smart Meter, the meter was recently installed or the wrong account has been selected.
Check whether:
- the property has a TNB Smart Meter
- the meter is still within the three-to-10-day activation period
- the Smart Meter is linked to the correct account
- the correct property is selected in myTNB
- you are looking for current-day data that has not yet been transmitted
TNB says Smart Meter data is transmitted daily and can be viewed the following day. Current-day consumption may therefore not appear immediately.

Does myTNB show an estimated electricity bill?
Yes. TNB's Smart Meter guide says myTNB can show the estimated amount of the bill you may receive based on recorded consumption.
The estimated amount helps you monitor spending before the billing period ends. It is not the final electricity bill.
Electricity usage is measured in kilowatt-hours, or kWh. The final bill is calculated using that consumption together with the applicable electricity tariff and other relevant billing components.
How do I set an Energy Budget in myTNB?
Select Energy Budget in myTNB, choose the relevant Smart Meter account, enter your monthly budget amount and save it.
TNB's published instructions are:
- Select Energy Budget from Quick Access.
- Choose the relevant Smart Meter account.
- Enter the monthly budget amount.
- Save the budget.
- Monitor the alerts as you approach the threshold.
TNB describes Energy Budget as a feature for monitoring monthly electricity spending and says customers will receive alerts as they near the chosen budget threshold.
How do I get a TNB Smart Meter?
TNB installs Smart Meters progressively by location, and customers normally receive a notice when their premises are included in the rollout.
TNB does not present Smart Meter installation as a standard on-demand request made solely through the myTNB app.
TNB states that:
- the Smart Meter and installation are free
- customers receive an installation notice
- installation normally takes 30 to 60 minutes
- the electricity supply must be switched off temporarily
- myTNB usage monitoring may take three to 10 days to become available
For high-rise properties, TNB recommends that a representative from the building management office monitor the installation process.
What should I compare if my TNB usage looks unusually high?
Compare your kWh usage, the billing or viewing period, and household activity, before looking only at the ringgit amount.
Check the following in order:
- Compare kWh: Determine whether the premises actually used more electricity.
- Check the date range: Make sure you are comparing periods of similar length.
- Consider occupancy: More people or more time at home can increase consumption.
- Review air-conditioner use: Hot weather and longer operating hours can cause a noticeable increase.
- Check other major appliances: Water heaters, refrigerators, dryers and cooking appliances may contribute to higher use.
- Review the tariff: The final bill can also be affected by the tariff and other billing components.
Comparing similar periods is more useful than comparing unrelated days. For example, compare weekdays with other weekdays or one hot-weather period with another.
FAQ
What app lets me check TNB electricity usage?
Use the myTNB app, Tenaga Nasional Berhad's official electricity account app. Detailed interval-usage information requires an activated TNB Smart Meter account.
Why is yesterday's TNB usage not showing yet?
Smart Meter data is transmitted daily, so the latest information may not appear immediately. If it remains unavailable, check that the correct Smart Meter account is active or contact TNB.
Is the estimated amount in myTNB my final bill?
No. It is an estimate based on the consumption recorded so far. The final bill reflects the applicable tariff and other billing components.
Can I check more than one TNB account?
Yes. TNB says myTNB supports multiple electricity accounts under the same profile. Select the relevant account before reviewing its usage.
Does installing a Smart Meter automatically reduce my bill?
No. A Smart Meter does not reduce electricity consumption by itself. It gives you more detailed information that can help you identify when consumption is higher.
