A restaurant in Penang is pleading with a woman to return a phone she allegedly stole after she was caught on CCTV taking it from the cashier counter
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, 12 August, the restaurant owner said that while the phone is not worth much, it contains data that is important for the business.
"If it was taken by mistake, we kindly ask that you return it to the shop. We really don't want escalate the matter. We just want to get the phone back," the owner said.
The 14-second CCTV footage shows the woman placing her bag over the phone on the cashier counter before allegedly sliding it off the counter with her bag and into her hand.
After waiting two days for the woman to return the phone, the owner updated in a new post today, 14 August, that she has lodged a police report
"Unfortunately, despite giving the person time and the opportunity to return the phone to the shop, we still have not received it.
"As a result, we have officially filed a police report. The relevant CCTV footage, phone information, and the sequence of events have been handed over to the police for investigation.
"We would also like to thank everyone who helped share our post, provided information, and showed concern regarding this matter," she wrote.
The phone was identified as a Samsung Galaxy A07 with 256GB of storage, worth around RM1,149.
