Cape Verde supporters celebrated a stunning 0-0 draw against European giants Spain as if they had just won the World Cup

The result in Cape Verde's debut match on the world stage triggered pure euphoria for thousands of fans at a Boston fan zone, where the area became a sea of flags the moment the final whistle went.

Boston is home to the largest Cape Verdean diaspora in the US.

For Elizabeth dos Santos, 50, who migrated to the US at 14, the draw felt like victory.

"Oh my God, it feels like we won the World Cup," she said to Reuters.

"Everyone expected Spain to beat us, but we proved them wrong. We may be small, but we have a big spirit," Dos Santos said

Another supporter, Gabi Vieira, expressed immense pride in seeing her underdog team hold the powerhouse nation that won the tournament in 2010.

"This is our first time at the World Cup and we came without any big expectations," Vieira said, adding that she's proud that the whole world could see Cape Verde's flag and learn about the country.

Spain dominated possession with 28 shots, with 8 on target, but Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha kept Lamine Yamal and his side at bay

Looking ahead to their upcoming Group H match against Uruguay, Vieira jokingly shared a 'culinary strategy' for the squad.

"We will eat cachupa and we will be able to beat them. Eat cachupa, that's our secret," Vieira joked.

The dish is a traditional Cape Verdean staple made from a hearty mixture of meat, fish, corn, and beans.

The historic result has injected massive confidence into Cape Verde as they continue their journey in Group H, marking one of the biggest shocks of the tournament.
