If you hope your child becomes the next football multi-millionaire, it is time to look closely at their birth certificate
A new data analysis from sports betting platform Vegas Insider crunched the numbers for over 9,000 players across 23 World Cup tournaments from 1930 to 2026.
The results shows a statistical fingerprint that dictates who actually gets to step onto the world stage.
The data tracked the most common names, birth months, and star signs across 96 years of tournament history.

The study found that the optimal combination for a future football legend is an Aquarius named Carlos born in January
"Carlos turned out to be the most common name in World Cup history with 78 players, ahead of Luis and José in joint second on 61 each, David in fourth on 51, and Mario in fifth on 49," a Vegas Insider spokesman said.
That said, the study should be taken with a pinch of salt, as Lionel Messi, arguably the greatest football player of all time, is an Aquarius who was born on 24 June 1987.
