A football match in Negeri Sembilan ended in tragedy on Sunday, 26 July, after a goalkeeper suddenly collapsed during a penalty shootout and was later pronounced dead

The incident happened at around 11.30am at Residensi Prima Bandar Ekar in Rantau, Seremban, Harian Metro reported.

According to Seremban district police chief ACP Mohd Yatim Osman, police received a report at 11.35am that a local man had suddenly collapsed while serving as the goalkeeper during the match.

Initial investigations found no criminal elements at the scene.

The victim's wife was at the field when the incident happened

Mohd Yatim said the victim's wife was present at the football field to support her 45-year-old husband when he suddenly collapsed.

He was believed to have died at the scene before his body was taken to Hospital Tuanku Ja'afar (HTJ) for further examination.

Police said the man had a history of heart disease and was receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Serdang.

Authorities have urged the public not to speculate about the incident out of respect for the victim's family.
