National dancer Cherry Yeo Xiao Wei dazzled her way to three gold medals at the Mallorca Dance Festival (MDF) in Calvia, Spain over the weekend

According to the Malaysia Dancesport Federation, the 18-year-old came out on top in the 2023 World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) championship's Youth Female Solo Latin and Adult Female Solo Latin events.

For the first win, she surpassed 53 other female athletes to emerge champion. As for the second gold medal, she outdanced 37 other athletes from 14 different countries.

Meanwhile, Yeo also snatched a gold and bronze medal at the Spanish dancesport festival's own disciplines, emerging as champion in the MDF Open Youth Female Solo Latin category, and claiming fourth place in the MDF Open Adult Female Solo Latin event.

Four other dancers from the Kuala Lumpur Dancesport Association (KLDSA) also took part in the festival

The other KLDSA members of the national contingent include Yap Wan Xin, Madeleine Lau Yu Xuan, Nicole Lim Le Wei, and Taraneh Ahmadi Zeidabadi, who also took part in various solo Latin dance categories.

According to Bernama, the KLDSA attributed Yeo's outstanding achievement to the excellent guidance she received from her two coaches – Chua Zjen Fong and Evon Chong.

"These outstanding results underscore the prowess of our athletes, solidifying their presence as top contenders at the Mallorca Dance Festival," said Chong on the dance studio's Instagram page.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has also taken to her Facebook page to congratulate Yeo on her splendid performance

"Double gold for Cherry Yeo at the WDSF championship in Calvia, Spain. She placed top for Youth Female Solo Latin and Open Adult Solo Latin. Congratulations!" the minister wrote on Monday, 13 November.
