Malaysian para-athlete Brenda Anellia Larry has managed to set a new Asian record at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games today, 27 August

The swimmer broke her previous best recorded in 2019

Brenda recorded 1:00.62s to finish the women's 50m butterfly (S5) event.

The 16-year-old improved on her previous time of 1:09.72s at the 2019 Para Swimming World Series Championships in Singapore.

The para-athlete has now set a new Asian record for the 50m butterfly croak event.

Unfortunately, the record failed to qualify her for the finals after finishing the competition in the 13th best position with only eight participants out of 14 athletes allowed to advance to the finals.
