They claimed the silver medal after losing to world No. 4 pair in the highly-anticipated clash in the Riocentro, Pavillion 4
V Shem-Wee Kiong got off to a shaky start but made a strong comeback to secure the first set with a comfortable 21-16 win.
However, they fell short in the second set, losing 11-21.
The Malaysian team were trailing at the beginning of the third set but they clawed their way to tie at 13-13, then go on to take the lead at 18-17 before they finally lost 23-21.
Malaysians can surely take pride in the duo who displayed fantastic sportsmanship and commitment with true grit, giving their all throughout the whole tournament
During the group matches, V Shem and Wee Kiong made a comeback to beat Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan 21-16, 15-21, 21-18.
The Malaysian shuttlers continued to impress during the quarter-finals as they beat world No. 1 Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeon-seong 17-21, 21-18, 21-19 in a hard-fought victory.
Then, they edged out 5th-ranked Chinese pair Chai Biao and Hong Wei in the semis with three sets (21-18, 12-21, 21-17) and advanced to the final.
Against all odds, the underdogs defied their 12th world ranking to land in the finals, and today, V Shem and Wee Kiong can stand tall and proud of their outstanding achievements!
