The Selangor SUKMA 2026 Games have been overshadowed by the death of Terengganu men's softball coach Shymin Amirul Wan Mohd Sofli
Shymin reportedly lost consciousness during a match yesterday, 16 August.
He was taken ill while Terengganu were playing Negeri Sembilan at the softball field at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
Terengganu went on to win the match 14-9, while the state's women's softball team also recorded a 21-1 victory over Kelantan.
His death has since prompted condolences from the SUKMA Selangor 2026 Secretariat and the Terengganu sporting community.
SUKMA to observe one-minute silence
The SUKMA Selangor 2026 Secretariat expressed its condolences to Shymin's family, describing him as the coach of the Terengganu men's softball team.
"All members of SUKMA XXII & Para SUKMA Selangor 2026 extend our condolences to the family of the late Shymin Amirul Wan Mohd Sofli.
"The late Shymin Amirul was the coach of the Terengganu SUKMA men's softball team," the secretariat said in a social media post.
As a mark of respect, the secretariat decided that a one-minute silence would be observed at the start of every match held today, 17 August.
Terengganu sports community mourns coach
The Darul Iman Information Secretariat (UPDI) said Shymin's death would leave a deep impact on his family, friends, and members of Terengganu's sporting community who knew and worked with him.
"May Allah SWT forgive all his sins, shower His mercy upon him, accept all his good deeds and place his soul among the believers and those who perform righteous deeds," UPDI said.
It also extended its condolences to Shymin's family and prayed that they would be given strength and fortitude in facing the loss.
