Not sure which dashcam to get for your vehicle?

The Malaysian Institute Of Road Safety Research (MIROS) partnered up with Cybersecurity Malaysia to release a scoring metric that can help people to better choose their dashcams.

The scoring metric is called 'CamScore' or 'Dashcam Safety Score Card', and it rates dashcams through three fundamental pillars — basic features, advanced features, and Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS).

The purpose they released this scoring metric is to ensure that drivers are able to ascertain the level of quality in a dashcam more concretely so they can get the most out of their purchase.

Additionally, out of 40 dashcams that underwent MIROS' CamScore scoring metric, only five models successfully garnered the full five-star rating.

Here are the shortlisted 5-star CamScore-rated dashcams you can get online:

1. 70mai A800S | RM504 - RM649

The 70mai A800S had the highest scoring rating (4.59 points) out of all 40 dashcam models and for good reason. The dashcam boasts a Sony IMX 415 CMOS image sensor that can record 4K UHD videos with a wide-angle 140° FOV.  Furthermore, it's also embedded with 3D DNR tech that can capture vivid images even in the dead of night.

Safety-wise, the dashcam features lane departure assistance alongside forward-collision warnings to avoid accidents. When you park your car, the dashcam activates its Parking Mode that detects any hit-and-run collisions and immediately begins recording.

You can get it on Shopee and Lazada.

2. 70mai Pro Plus+ A500S | RM329 - RM469

The 70mai Pro Plus+ A500S ties the 70mai A800S with 4.59 points and a five-star CamScore rating. It features built-in GPS, forward collision warnings, and Parking Mode as well.

To add on to these features, this dashcam model is built with a 5-mega-pixel Sony IMX335 sensor and can record 1944P video in detail whether it's day or at night.

You can get it on Shopee and Lazada.

3. Thinkware U1000 | RM2,599

On the pricier end for a dashcam, the Thinkware U1000 features an array of premium features. This includes a front camera that can choose between 2K QHD 60fps to 4K UHD 30fps, real-time impact detection that records accidents as it happens, continuous recording, as well as night vision that can showcase videos clearly even at night.

You can buy it on Shopee and Lazada.

4. 70mai M500 | RM439-RM799

You can get it on Shopee and Lazada.

5. DDPAI X5 Pro | RM1,799.00 - RM1,859

After the Thinkware U1000, the DDPAI X5 Pro is the second most expensive device in this lineup. This dashcam features a Sony IMX 415 video sensor with ultra HD 2160p resolution, GPS tracking, low-light recording, 24 hours Parking Mode, and a built-in microphone.
