According to Malaysia Automotive, Robotics, and IoT Institute (MARii), the Malaysian EV market is set to experience booming growth

Malaysia, a key player in the Southeast Asian automotive market, is experiencing swift progress in the electric vehicle sector, according to MARii CEO Azrul Reza Aziz. The market share of electric vehicles in Malaysia is expected to substantially increase.

The national goal is for electric vehicles to make up 15% of the total industry volume (TIV) by 2030.

This explains the early arrival of the Omoda E5, as the brand initially said it would only bring the new model to Malaysia sometime in 2024.

The Omoda E5 rocks a sleek crossover design, featuring a streamlined silhouette, plus a futuristic front face. It's an energy-efficient beast, running at 15 kWh/100 km and boasting an impressive 450km range. It's powered by a front-mounted 165kW electric motor that draws power from a 61kWh lithium-ion battery.

Charging is a breeze, with the battery juicing up from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes with DC charging.

The car is also equipped with the latest Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) which has at least 16 functions, including blind-spot monitoring, reverse warning, and automatic emergency braking capable of recognising pedestrians and cyclists.

Overall, the Omoda E5 is an excellent EV set to join the ranks of great sustainable energy vehicles in Malaysia.

Chery has yet to announce the pricing of the Omoda E5, but with its petrol-powered cousin retailing between RM108,800 and RM118,800, you can have a rough estimation of the EV's price range.

The official retail price is expected to be revealed soon with the imminent launch of the car.
