Google Pays Tribute To P. Ramlee On His 88th Birthday
The search engine honours one of Malaysia's most prolific creatives.
Google Malaysia's home page is currently graced by the Doodle of P. Ramlee, the Malaysian legend who left a lasting legacy through his various artistic achievements
Tan Sri Datuk Amar Teuku Zakaria Teuku Nyak Putih or known better for his screen name as P. Ramlee was a prolific actor, director, writer, and musician who contributed to more than 60 films and composed around 250 songs.
Sadly, the Penangite passed away from a heart attack a few months after he turned 44.
He would've been 88 years old this year.
Today, the tech giant highlights him through its signature Doodle. The image shows P. Ramlee perched on a director's chair, with music sheet in hand, a guitar by his side and a hailer in his other hand - a fitting tribute to his achievements as a creative.
“Born 88 years ago today, P. Ramlee’s artistic achievements left a permanent mark on the cultural history of Malaysia.
Today’s Doodle highlights the Malaysian legend’s diverse artistry and shows him as people best remember him - sporting a thin mustache and a checkered suit, his head cocked slightly to the side,” said Google in its Doodle description.
Google also shared the original concept drawings with two different poses. The final design was a combination of the two, since the team liked them so much.
He was best remembered acting and directing in a number of comedies and dramas such as the Bujang Lapok series, Ibu Mertuaku, Anak-Ku Sazali, Madu Tiga, and Nujum Pak Belalang.
