Instagram Is Adding Even More Ads To Your Browsing Experience
However, the Facebook-owned app says it will do so in a "thoughtful" manner.
Aimlessly scrolling Instagram is about to get a little bit more annoying with the introduction of ads in the 'Explore' tab
The Facebook-owned platform is about to introduce ads to one of its last ads-free areas, following in the footsteps of introducing ads to a user's feed and Stories.
'Explore' debuted nearly five years ago, reported AdWeek.
Explore's ads will be shown in a "thoughtful" manner - where users will only see it after opening up a photo or video
Mashable Southeast Asia reported that ads will not show up on the main Explore grid.
Instead, a user has to tap on a photo or video, which opens up a discovery feed consisting of posts that are similar to the first one they opened up.
The ads will be slotted in with the rest of the posts within the discovery feed.
Instagram said the rollout of ads in 'Explore' will happen in the coming months
"Today, 80% of people follow a business on Instagram, and Explore can help them find the next business or product they might love," a blog post on the announcement read.
"[O]ver the next few months, we'll be introducing ads in Explore feed. For advertisers, this is an opportunity to be part of what's culturally relevant and trending while reaching new audiences who are looking to discover something new."
