On 1 July, the Ministry of Finance of Malaysia (MOF), in collaboration with Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), announced the commencement of the Go-eCommerce Onboarding and Shop Malaysia Online (SMO) campaigns
As part of the Belanjawan 2021 initiative, the campaigns will see the government injecting an incentive package worth RM200 million. This will be used to provide support to 300,000 local businesses from various sectors, by onboarding them onto e-commerce and e-payment platforms to enhance their sales capability in e-commerce and help boost their sales.
"MDEC holds steadfast to its resolve to equip and enable Malaysian businesses to navigate and thrive through these business unusual times. With strong support from the government and effective public-private collaborations, we aim to further catalyse the growth of e-commerce in Malaysia and of equal importance, sustaining livelihoods and jobs in the process.
"Together, we can accomplish the goals of MyDIGITAL and place us firmly on-course towards Malaysia 5.0; a globally competitive digital nation, anchored on inclusivity, sustainability, and shared prosperity, firmly establishing Malaysia as the Heart of Digital ASEAN," said Surina Shukri, CEO, MDEC.
A total of 32 e-commerce partners will be participating in the campaigns, with Maybank being the only bank in Malaysia selected to join
The participating partners will further complement the effort by the government by contributing a further RM200 million in subsidies, incentives, discounts, and rebates.
For Maybank, the move to actively participate in the government's eCommerce and digital initiative reinforces their commitment to offer diversified digital banking products and services to consumers, whilst providing a humanising support to the community through this unprecedented time.
As part of the Go-eCommerce campaign, Maybank will be offering zero commission, zero sign up fee, and zero platform fees for merchants to come onboard the bank's Sama-Sama Lokal platform
Created to support local merchants and keep them going during this difficult time, Sama-Sama Lokal has been a great help to Malaysian businesses since the first MCO.
From small hawker stalls and sundry shops to flower suppliers and farmers, you can find them all on Sama-Sama Lokal. This makes it easy for Malaysians to discover and buy from these local merchants, helping them stay afloat. It has been especially helpful to businesses that found it difficult to adapt to the current situation by digitising their operations.
The best thing about Sama-Sama Lokal is that Maybank does not charge anything for merchants to come onboard — there are zero platform fees, zero sign up fees, and most importantly, zero commission.
This means that the merchants are able to keep 100% of the revenue they earn from sales made via the platform, helping them to cover costs like rent and employee salaries, as well as hopefully make a profit.
As for the Shop Malaysia Online campaign, Maybank is not only offering promos on Sama-Sama Lokal, but also cashback when you Scan & Pay via the MAE app.
