The government is developing a synchronised platform to provide real-time updates on electronic vehicle (EV) charging bays
The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) announced it was addressing "range anxiety" among electric vehicle (EV) drivers by fixing the country's fragmented charging data.
The Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) is currently building the e-Mobility Service Platform (eMSP) to provide real-time updates on charging bays.
According to The Star, once operational, the system will sync with the existing Malaysia Electric Vehicle Charging Network (MEVnet) dashboard via a synchronised application programming interface.
The ministry noted that current public figures were slightly delayed as data management moved from the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) to MARii
The ministry said the transition formed part of a broader push for data consistency, describing the eMSP as a vital tool for national infrastructure expansion.
The upgrade falls under the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021–2030, which set a target of 10,000 public charging bays by the end of 2025.
A coordinated approach between agencies is required to ensure growth, with the Energy Commission serving as the technical regulator for the network
The government aims to ensure that finding a charger for EVs is eventually as easy and reliable for Malaysians as finding a petrol station.
