Donald Trump Renames ‘Artificial Intelligence’ To ‘Super Intelligence’

US President Donald Trump has announced that the US federal government will officially stop using the term "artificial intelligence". Moving forward, official communications across government agencies will adopt the term "super intelligence".

During a speech at the UN General Assembly on 22 September, he said the decision stems from a belief that the word "artificial" carries a negative connotation, making the technology sound fake.

Trump clarified that such systems offer real and powerful intelligence, making "super intelligence" a far more fitting label.

The updated policy will take effect immediately across all US government channels

In addition to the rebranding, the president made it clear that the US will not place limits on the technology's development.

"The United States totally rejects any attempt to construct a globalist scheme to control… artificial intelligence," he said, according to the AFP.

"Every major new technology brings challenges, and super intelligence is no exception," he added.

Trump also dismissed recent global reports warning about potential existential threats from advanced technology

While acknowledging that every emerging technology brings unique challenges, he maintained that the US will push development forward rather than slow it down.

"The very same people who said we'll all be dead in 12 years because of global warming… are now saying that AI is going to kill us all, that robots are going to attack us, and that everything is going to be a total disaster," he said.

During his speech, he noted that the US currently leads China in the global technology race. Instead of implementing guardrails, US policy will focus on encouraging growth and expansion in the field.

"We will work towards agreeing a single set of global principles and standards to ensure the transparency and access we need to increase our preparedness and to ensure that AI development is safe," Trump said.
