WhatsApp has just eliminated the biggest hurdle to joining a virtual meeting by allowing users without an account to hop on a call

The Meta-owned messaging platform is rolling out a brand-new guest calling feature that lets anyone join a conversation via a simple, shareable link.

According to WhatsApp, this update allows its users to easily connect with colleagues, classmates, or clients without having to worry about which communication apps they have installed.

Guests without a WhatsApp account can join one-on-one or group calls with up to 32 people directly from their computer browsers

While anyone can join a call, security remains a top priority, as guests are placed in a virtual waiting room until the host grants them access.

To protect user privacy, guests cannot view other participants' phone numbers, send text messages, or invite additional people to the chat.

Despite these restrictions, guests still have access to essential tools like screen sharing, emoji reactions, and the ability to raise their hands.

WhatsApp is also preparing to introduce calendar integrations for Google and Outlook later this year.

Here's how to invite someone without a WhatsApp account to join a call:

  • STEP 1: Navigate to the Calls tab
  • STEP 2: Tap the "+" icon
  • STEP 3: Generate a call link to share

Once the calendar integration launches, users will be able to add a WhatsApp call link directly to their invites by installing a simple plugin.

"We believe WhatsApp calling should always work wherever you are and with whoever you need, with the privacy you can count on," the company stated.
