In this day and age, when it's getting harder to find love, one artificial intelligence engineer in China got creative

After failing to find a wife, he got married to a robot he built himself.

The South China Morning Post, via Qianjiang Evening News, reported that 31-year-old Zheng Jiajia created the "female" robot at the end of last year.

Zheng named the robot Yingying. And apparently, it can identify not just Chinese characters and images but can even say a few simple words.

He got married to his own creation in a traditional Chinese ceremony last week.

While their marriage isn't legal, Zheng's commitment is surely admirable. His mother and friends were by his side.

Zheng, who was previously working for Huawei, was reportedly "dating" his female robot for the last two months

He now plans to upgrade his "bride" to be able to walk and do household chores. Until then he has to carry the 30kg robot to move her, reported The Guardian.

Reactions to this unprecedented union have been mixed

"You won’t have her mother looking down on you, you don’t have the pressure to buy a home and you get to save money and energy," one user wrote on WeChat, while another asked, "He’ll slowly get old, his face will become wrinkled and his hair will grow white – but will he upgrade her to grow old, or just to be prettier?"

Yingying “waits” without complaint outside the wedding venue.
