Xiaomi Claims Its New Flagship Smartphone Has Better Features Than The iPhone X
Bold claims.
After numerous leaks in the past few weeks, Xiaomi has officially unveiled its latest flagship, the Mi Mix 2S, at a special event in Shanghai
Many are calling this smartphone Xiaomi's answer to the iPhone X.
"We are comparing to iPhone X because people say it is the best phone. We just want to show we surpassed the best in many features," said Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun as quoted by The Verge.
It's game on, Apple. Xiaomi is coming for you.
Designed to be the successor of last year's Mi Mix 2, the Mi Mix 2S features a stunning, almost bezel-less display
With a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels, the display sits on top of a ceramic body with an aluminium frame.
It was heavily rumoured that the Chinese company might copy the iPhone X's infamous notch. But it is now clear that Xiaomi has decided to go notch-less with the Mi Mix 2S and opted for a smoother and sleeker display.
Under the hood, you'll find a Snapdragon 845 processor with 6GB or 8GB of RAM
Xiaomi also showed off an impressively high AnTuTu score of 277,178, claiming the new phone is much faster than most Android phones out there.
What is AnTuTu?
AnTuTu is a benchmark app that measures every part of a phone and assigns an overall score to it. Consumers and tech analysts often use AnTuTu scores to determine the capabilities of a device.
Xiaomi has implemented a similar dual-camera setup as the iPhone X. It comprises of two 12-megapixel sensors and a dual-pixel autofocus system for faster focusing.
The cameras were shown side-by-side as Xiaomi displayed how much faster the Mi Mix 2S is to focus and capture subjects thanks to the dual-pixel autofocus.
Xiaomi also included a multi-frame noise reduction algorithm, a technology made famous by the Google Pixel phones.
In addition to taking some pretty stunning photos, there's also an inbuilt AI scene detection to help detect and optimise up to six shooting scenarios
The Mi Mix 2S' impressive cameras also managed to secure a score of 97, the same score as the iPhone X, at DxoMark, the leading reference for mobile image quality.
The Mi Mix 2S will be available in three variants with two colours to choose from
The base model of the Mi Mix 2S with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage will cost you 3,299 yuan (around RM2,035), while the top model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage will go for 3,999 yuan (around RM2,467).
The Mi Mix 2S will be available in China starting 3 April 2018, but global availability has not yet been confirmed yet.
