Apple's AirPods Max 2. Priced at RM2,299, it is now officially available in Malaysia. But is it worth the premium price?

First things first: The headphones come in five colourways: Blue, Purple, Midnight, Starlight, and Orange. I got to try out the Midnight version.

The device feels solid, as they're crafted from aluminium and stainless steel.

If you, like me, value build quality, the mesh headband is a lifesaver designed to distribute weight across your skull.

Also, the AirPods Max 2 comes with a redesigned Smart Case that supports USB-C charging. It's especially handy when you're commuting in the train or travelling.

However, just a heads up: although the USB-C charging cable is included in the box, you will have to buy the plug separately.

The AirPods Max 2 weighs 386.2g. It's substantial enough that you'll feel it after a few hours of a WFH marathon.

If you are used to tiny earbuds, these might take some getting used to, particularly in our humidity. I found myself only able to use the device for up to an hour before having to take a break.

Prolonged usage hurt my ears and the sides of my head. So I found myself having to adjust the length of the device from the time to time.

That said, you do not need to be an audiophile to appreciate the sound, as everything is crisp, clear, and balanced.

The noise cancellation is arguably the best in the world, turning a noisy cafe into a quiet library.

There is also a new 'Adaptive' mode that smartly blends music with external sounds

This is great for staying aware of your surroundings, such as while crossing the street for a quick cup of coffee.

Battery life remains a letdown. In 2026, most high-end headphones offer 30 to 60 hours of playback.

The AirPods Max 2 offers only 20 hours, which is a disappointment given its premium price.

I found myself reaching for a USB-C charger more often than I would have liked.

If you already use an iPhone or MacBook, the 'Apple Magic' is the real reason to buy the AirPods Max 2

Pairing it with Apple devices unlocks capabilities that allow you to literally nod your head to answer a call or shake it to decline.

If you value style and silence, the AirPods Max 2 are a solid investment piece that will last you years.

However, if you're an audiophile looking for something lightweight and comfortable, it's worth taking your time and exploring other options before deciding.
