A record-breaking 75,000 fans turned up to watch Coldplay perform on Wednesday night, 22 November

According to Fly FM, the British rock band secured the largest single day concert attendance in Bukit Jalil National Stadium ever.

The record does not even include the many more who did not manage to get tickets, standing outside the stadium to sing along.

It was the band's first concert in Malaysia since their debut in 1997

As part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, Coldplay performed a total of 26 songs during the two-hour show on Wednesday night, with the entire stadium filled with fans singing along to favourites such as Fix You, Paradise, and Yellow.

Many declared the show "the concert of a lifetime".

"Thank you for waiting 27 years for us to come to your country," said lead singer Chris Martin during the show.

Bukit Jalil National Stadium has a capacity of 85,000 people

It was expected that Coldplay would break attendance records when, according to The Vibes, concert organiser Live Nation saw a record-breaking 400,000 fans lining up in their virtual queue to buy tickets in May.

With an attendance of 75,000, Coldplay attracted more fans than K-pop superstars BLACKPINK, who performed in Malaysia for 62,000 attendees in March this year.

For context, Coldplay's own record of the biggest attendance in one show was at Croke Park in Dublin, Ireland in 2017, with an attendance of just over 80,000.

According to Fly FM, the record for most-attended music event in Bukit Jalil National Stadium was previously held by homegrown pop queen Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, with an attendance of 70,000 in 2004.
