Jujutsu Kaisen's manga artist, Gege Akutami, appears to have an affinity for Malaysia, as he not only features Kuantan in the series but also Kuala Lumpur

In episode 46 that aired today, 22 December, a skilled character in the series, Mei Mei, and her brother Ui Ui, travelled to Kuala Lumpur after narrowly escaping a battle with an enemy concealed within Geto Suguru's body.

The fight between Mei Mei and the enemy occurred offscreen after the events depicted in episode 38.

The audience only witnessed her reappearance in today's episode, where she utilised her brother's ability to journey to Kuala Lumpur in search of shelter.

The episode showcases the skyline of the Petronas Twin Towers before revealing Mei Mei and Ui Ui resting in an upscale hotel room in the capital city.

In the manga, however, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building was featured instead of the twin towers.

The featuring of Kuala Lumpur in today's episode comes after a mention of Kuantan four episodes ago in the anime

In that episode that aired a month ago, Kento Nanami, a beloved mentor-like character to the series' main character, Yuji Itadori, expressed his desire to visit Malaysia, particularly a beach in Kuantan, before his imminent death.

After the episode aired, the Pahang state government said they would reach out to Jujutsu Kaisen's creators for a collaboration opportunity to promote tourism in Kuantan.

Jujutsu Kaisen, written by Akutami and animated by MAPPA Studio, follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organisation of Jujutsu Sorcerers to eliminate monsters in the world and a powerful 'curse' named Ryomen Sukuna.

The series is set in Tokyo, Japan, and Malaysia appears to be Akutami's second favorite location to feature.

At the time of writing, 'KLCC' is trending on X, with many netizens expressing their appreciation for Jujutsu Kaisen showcasing Kuala Lumpur in the latest episode

Local cinema operator TGV was among the many excited Malaysians who took to social media to celebrate the animated Kuala Lumpur skyline.
