Pahang Government To Reach Out To 'Jujutsu Kaisen' Creators To Promote Kuantan Tourism
Kuantan went viral on X last month after a beloved character in the anime mentioned the tourist attraction in one of its latest episodes.
The Pahang State Legislative Assembly has expressed its intention to collaborate with the creators of the popular anime series Jujutsu Kaisen following the recent mention of Kuantan in one of its latest episodes
Pahang executive council member (EXCO) and unity, tourism, and culture committee chairperson, Leong Yu Man, said the state government is actively reaching out to the anime's creators through the Japanese government, reported the New Straits Times.
She said Pahang could leverage the opportunity to promote tourism in Kuantan, emphasising that some anime enthusiasts have already marked Kuantan as the memorial shrine for Jujutsu Kaisen character Kento Nanami on Google Maps.
"We hope the creators of the anime can endorse the beach further so that it will be a tourist attraction for anime fans across the world," The Star quoted the Triang state assemblyperson (ADUN) as saying.
Leong was responding to a question by Tanjung Lumpur ADUN Rosli Abdul Jabar during the state legislative assembly sitting on Wednesday, 6 December
Rosli asked what efforts the state government would make to turn the beaches in Tanjung Lumpur into top tourist destinations.
In episode 42 of Jujutsu Kaisen, which aired on November 24, the series' beloved character Nanami expresses his desire to retire in Kuantan just moments before facing his imminent death.
"Malaysia. That's right, Malaysia. I should go to Kuantan.
"I'll build a house on an empty beach. The books that I bought but never read have piled up like a mountain. I want to read them slowly as if I'm retrieving the time lost," said Nanami, as a montage of him killing monsters and dancing on a beach in Kuantan played.
After the episode aired, netizens created a memorial shrine for Nanami on Google Maps, and fans, dressed in cosplay outfits, visited Taman Esplanade in Kuantan to pay tribute to the character.
In a conversation with SAYS, part-time photographer Keith Wong said he visited the tourist spot recently to bring the fictional event to life.
"As Jujutsu Kaisen fans and cosplayers, we want to bring out the feelings into real life.
"We chose here because there is a huge 'Kuantan' wording there to represent we are in Kuantan," said Wong after a photo he took went viral on Facebook.
