A couple who recently tied the knot in Chaozhou, China, have gone viral on Douyin for their "fated" love story

On 9 January, Zheng and his wife shared a video on Douyin, featuring two clips set two decades apart.

The first clip showed the couple posing on stage as husband and wife during a Children's Day performance back in kindergarten, while the second clip shows the couple walking down the aisle as adults for their actual wedding ceremony.

The couple shared that they did not know each other in kindergarten and were randomly selected by the teacher to take part in the performance

They had never met before and were not in the same class.

"He was in the grade above me. He was taller than the rest of the boys at the time, and maybe that's why he was chosen alongside me to play a newlywed couple in a skit," the wife said.

The children donned heavy makeup, dressed in a wedding dress and a suit. They walked on stage and posed together, while other children performed as bridesmaids and groomsmen behind them.

After the performance, the couple never talked and lost contact with each other, attending different schools and universities

However in October 2022, the video clip of the kindergarten performance began circulating in a class group chat.

Upon seeing the video, Zheng's mother thought it was a sweet twist of fate and playfully suggested he should try finding the little girl who played his bride. With the help of their former kindergarten teacher, he managed to contact his childhood "bride".

To their surprise, they found themselves falling for each other.

"I never expected that the little boy and girl from that year would appear on the stage again in the same style," he reflected. "This time, we joined hands in a real marriage, which made me realise that fate is indeed wonderful."

The video has quickly captured the attention of viewers across social media, who expressed their amazement at the couple's childhood connection

"The wedding went smoothly because it was rehearsed 20 years ago," a netizen joked.

The couple's story inspired others to share their own tales of fate.

One netizen recounted a remarkable coincidence about her husband: "I was sick and had to borrow money from an online friend in 2021. I didn't know his name and contact information. Then in 2023, I met my boyfriend and found out he was the one who lent money to me. We got married and have a lovely daughter together."

"We were born in the same hospital on the same day of the same month of the same year. He was born two hours earlier than me, and we recently became a family," another shared.

Meanwhile, one woman shared a rather awkward anecdote about her school crush.

"Fate is really something. I had a crush on a boy at the beginning of school and I eventually became his sister-in-law," she wrote.

Meanwhile, this couple got married 16 years later after they met in an online game:
