A palm tree next to a resort hotel in Japan has accidentally gone viral for surviving multiple typhoons over the years, with the most recent being Typhoon Shanshan

Affectionately nicknamed 'Yasshi', the resilient palm tree captured the attention of over 12,000 viewers on a weather livestream as it was battered by the typhoon on Wednesday, 28 August.

Many netizens rallied behind Yasshi, rooting for its survival.

One X user, @mrjeffu, posted, "Hang in there, Yasshi! You can survive this!" as the tree swayed violently in the storm.

Yasshi even trended at #3 on X, with over 14,400 posts about it. When the livestream camera lost power at one point, around 6,000 viewers stayed on, anxiously waiting for it to come back online to check on Yasshi.
