"They Decided My Work Was Worth RM100" – SG Employee Resigns After Being Snubbed By Bosses
Offended by the lack of respect the company had for him, the employee refused the SGD30 (RM100) pay given.
When one is assigned a task at work, one would expect to be fairly compensated for their time and efforts, right?
Unfortunately, a Singaporean employee was snubbed by his company when they refused to pay him a fair wage for an ad hoc task at work.
According to the Singaporean who submitted his experience to Facebook group SGWhispers, he said that his superiors approached him to take corporate photos for the company's website and profile as they were aware that he was a photographer on the sidelines.
While he agreed to the task, the employee insisted they discuss a rate for his services before he started. However, the company gave an excuse, saying that this project was urgent and they would discuss payment later.
Complying to the request, the employee proceeded with the photography project, having had 18 sessions for photo taking alone. He also revealed that he used his own personal camera, lenses, and tripod, among others, for the project.

After all the photo taking sessions were over, the employee had to spend three weeks to edit over 600 pictures one by one on a tight schedule and with little direction
"They told me [to] use my own creativity and so I did. So, I had to research different kinds of edits and presets that were suitable for the company. The editing took me a long time to get it right and they told me to rush the job but make sure the photos came out nice," the Singaporean lamented.
After weeks of work, he had to wait months for the paycheck he was promised for the task. Fed up with playing the waiting game, he informed his superiors that he would be charging them SGD100 (RM330) for each session. In total, the invoice amounted to SGD1,800 (RM5,915) for the project.
Despite the reasonable rate and the opportunity to negotiate the fee, the company only paid SGD30 (RM100) and gave a 'Thank you for your hard work' note to the employee.

Offended at being paid peanuts, the employee immediately handed in his resignation that came with only a 24-hour notice period and said goodbye to the "toxic" company
He detailed all the times he had gone the extra mile for the company, such as sacrificing vacations, working overtime, never taking medical leaves, all for his efforts to be snubbed like this.
"I've been so patient with the company's unfair treatment and rulings. But, this is where I draw the line. It's my equipment. It's my skills. It's my time... And they decide all of this work I did was worth SGD30," he fumed.
The Singaporean revealed that he did not take the token SGD30 in the end and just quit his job.
He also deleted the photos from the company's server, possibly out of spite.
"I didn't take the SGD30. I told them that I rather have my work stolen. At least it shows that my work is so valuable that it was stolen."
"They tried to talk me into staying as I'm one of their best employees. I refused. I will never trust the 'do first, talk later' promise again. I learnt my lesson," he said.
