Maggots infesting rubbish bins are pretty common, especially when garbage has been left to pile up for slightly too long or we just forget to take it out
It's gross and annoying to have to clean up the mess. But there just might be a solution to prevent maggots from showing up.

Before that though, the first thing we should know is that flies have a short life cycle
This means that they are often looking for areas with the best chances of survival for their eggs, and that includes... our garbage bins with decomposing food.
Obviously, the best way to prevent maggots is to take out the trash on a regular basis. But we get it, life happens and sometimes we might have just left it for oneee day too long.

A recent TikTok shows a hack that just might prevent maggots.
All you need to do is to sprinkle a generous layer of salt at the bottom and rims of your tong sampah.

Maggots thrive in warm, moist areas so adding salt around the space soaks up any leaked fluids from your garbage and eliminates moisture.
This method is apparently most effective with bins that have lids or are in smaller areas, as opposed to open spaces where the maggots can just look for a new food source.
