A student in Johor Bahru recently went viral after she shared her experience of staying in a hotel throughout her internship
On 28 February, Nurfateha Balqis posted a video on TikTok and wrote, "Yes, six months of renting a hotel."
The clip garnered over 41,300 likes and 637,400 views.
For six months, she stayed at Tune Hotel located in Danga Bay.
The university student explained that the cost was actually cheaper than renting a typical room in a shared household.
While talking to SAYS, she explained, "I do not have transport to commute to the office where I served as an intern. I found several rooms to rent around Johor Bahru. But when I did the math, I realised it would cost me more to rent a room."
"I would have to take a Grab to work every day. Coincidentally, when I passed by my office, I saw a hotel. I immediately asked if they could accommodate long stays. My dad and I asked about four different hotels."
"The price for many of them reached thousands of ringgit. Then I asked this hotel and it turned out to be cheap," she added.
In a video, she also said that one of the advantages of staying at the hotel was that she would not have to pay utility bills.
Besides that, because the hotel was so close to her office, she was also able to walk to work every day and save money on transportation.
After her video went viral, people asked her to reveal the price of the hotel room.
To everyone's surprise, it only cost RM17.72 a day.
Nurfateha Balqis said, "Hi, Assalamualaikum. Since a lot of you commented, wanting to know the price of the hotel, I only paid RM550 per month."
The room came with a television, a water heater, WiFi connection, as well as housekeeping services.
She shared a tour of her room in a video:
Many people were impressed by the idea and agreed that it can be more worthwhile than renting a room
One person wrote, "Actually it's a good idea to rent a hotel room. Got air conditioning sometimes, TV, and a toilet. Rather than a normal empty room that's expensive."

"Yes, this is actually a good move rather than renting an empty room. A lot of people don't know. Long-term stays are cheaper than daily [stays]," a netizen noted.

"Safety, cleanliness, someone to clean the room, utilities included, free parking. It's good to rent like this. Might be a bit expensive but try counting those expenses," another comment read.
