It includes a luxurious hair wash, therapeutic head massages, and other treatments.

Said to be largest hair salon in KL, Walking On Sunshine has over 4,200 Google reviews and an impressive 4.8 rating. They offer a variety of hair services such as haircut, perm & colour, and treatment, as well as nail services.
But what they're perhaps most known for is their signature head spa — a comprehensive experience that includes a luxurious hair wash, therapeutic head massages, and other treatments to clear the mind and boost overall wellbeing.
According to the salon, their head spa is a deeply relaxing experience that helps to reduce stress and tension. It can also promote a healthy scalp by removing dirt and buildup, reducing dandruff and excess oil, and improving blood circulation.
Prices for the head spa start from RM180, and go up from there depending on what kind of treatment you opt for.
Videos of the head spa experience have been going viral all over social media, so when I was given the chance to try the Deluxe Head Spa, I decided to see if it lived up to the hype.
Here's my honest experience at Walking On Sunshine:
The moment I walked in, I felt like I had been transported to a tropical paradise, and tbh I even forgot that I was in a mall after a while

The whole salon encompasses a garden theme, so you'll see lots of greenery everywhere, from flowers on tables to potted plants in every corner and even vines of leaves dangling down from the ceiling.
Coupled with the comfy furniture that's in a brown colour scheme that complements the wooden elements of the salon, the whole vibe is warm, inviting, and comforting. And though it's in the middle of a mall, I didn't really hear any noise from shoppers outside.
There are a few wide open areas where you can get your hair and nails done, as well as a private area for hijabi customers. Also, they offer vegan and halal-friendly product options.

Walking On Sunshine has three different types of head spa — Premium (RM180), Premium Plus (RM250), and Deluxe (RM450)
In addition to all the services that come with the other options, the Deluxe one includes the added benefit of personalised treatments based on your hair and scalp condition, using products from globally recognised brands.
1. Milbon (Japan) - for damaged and dry hair
2. Olaplex - for bleached hair
3. Ha'sol (Korea) - for scalp issues
To find out which one was best for me, Kimberly, the head spa specialist attending to me for the day, started off by doing a scan of my scalp to identify my specific problems.
I was actually pretty intrigued by this cause I've never really known what my scalp condition is. Turns out, I have an oily and slightly sensitive scalp. Ngl, it was kinda geli seeing all the oil buildup blocking my roots, and I also had some sporadic areas of redness that I never knew existed.
Based on this analysis, it was recommended that I go for the Ha'sol treatment.

So, let's get into the Deluxe Hair Spa experience!
First up, I was given a dry head and shoulder massage. I liked that Kimberly asked me what kind of pressure I prefer before starting (I went for gentle pressure), and the massage was great. I particularly liked the use of a heated device on my shoulders, which really helped with the tension and sore muscles there.
Then, Kimberly showed me the various products she'd be using on my hair and scalp throughout the head spa and proceeded to apply the first one — a tonic for oily scalp, which was gently massaged in with a soothing scalp scaling process.
By this point, I was already feeling really relaxed!

For the next steps, I was taken to a private room.
The room was dark, with a galaxy projection and calming music creating a peaceful atmosphere. They also provided a blanket and heating pad to keep me warm and cosy.

The most relaxing thing of all is undoubtedly the rainfall hair wash system. Lying there listening to the sound of falling water and feeling the water rain down on my hair while I was getting pampered was so soothing that it almost lulled me to sleep.
This part of the head spa involved getting my hair washed twice with Ha'sol Intensive Shampoo for Oily Scalp & Deep Cleaning, which gave a cooling and tingly sensation. My scalp was then thoroughly cleaned through head-node combing and a sensual therapy claw.
This process was particularly enjoyable 'cause the machine they use to work through your hair gently scratches your scalp in such a satisfying way. Now I know why cats like getting their heads scratched so much haha, it's super puas, y'all!

I was also given an eye mask to put on, and just a heads up, it heats up and can get pretty warm. I found this a bit uncomfortable so I asked for it to be removed after a few minutes, which Kimberly happily obliged. I would have preferred a cooling eye mask instead, but others may like the warmth, so it's up to your own preference.
Here's where I got more massages as well — to my eyes and forehead, hair and scalp, and hands and arms. The massages were honestly my favourite part and left me super relaxed, especially 'cause Kimberly checked in with me every step of the way to make sure I was comfortable with what she was doing.
To wrap up the head spa, two more Ha'sol products were applied to my hair — scalp tonics for pH balancing and sensitive scalp nourishing

Interestingly, the tonics were put into a spray gun and sprayed onto my scalp, instead of being applied directly like the first tonic was.
After that, it was time to blow dry (they use Dyson hair dryers btw) and style my hair. While this was going on, I was served a complimentary beverage of my choice, so I just sat back and peacefully sipped my chamomile tea while Kimberly worked her magic.
Though the head spa description says it's only "basic styling", I was really pleased with how my hair turned out — my Hermione-like, bushy and frizzy hair was tamed into beautiful curls.

All in all, I truly enjoyed the Deluxe Hair Spa at Walking On Sunshine, and no, I wasn't paid to say that :P
When my scalp was scanned again at the end, I was pretty surprised to actually see a difference. My scalp looked much cleaner after the head spa, with the oil buildup gone and noticeably less red spots.
I will say that I didn't notice much of a difference in the softness of my usually dry hair on the day itself, but I assume that's because I opted for the scalp treatment instead of the hair one. However, my hair did feel slightly softer the next day, so maybe the treatment helped with that as well.
Also, Walking On Sunshine claims that other benefits of the head spa include better sleep quality, reduced headaches, scalp waste removal, and hair loss prevention. Idk how true these are since I've only done it once, haha.
I did find myself sleeping pretty well the rest of the week, but I have no idea if that has anything to do with the head spa, so make of that what you will, heh.
